The first year of college is a tumultuous time, and it is easy to become confused or overwhelmed, especially when the time comes to decide a major.

Career Services is there to help, however, and one of the ways in which they assist students is to keep them informed of all their options.

On Nov. 5, a Major and Career Expo will be held in the Beaux Arts Ballroom. Faculty from each department will be present in order to help students who are unsure about choosing their majors.

The Expo includes representatives from Career Services and the Advising Success Center, the Hobson Union Programming Board (HUPB), Graduate Studies and the International Program Center.

This is a "drop in" event; there is no set program, and students can come and go as they please. Faculty will be there representing the various departments, giving students a chance to discuss majors, minors, and the different emphasises available in an informal setting.

In addition, the Advising Success Center will be present providing information on different career paths, so that students will know exactly what they can do with any given major, and what careers will be available to them. Career testing and counseling will also be available.

The Major and Career Expo focuses not only on students’ futures after college, but on their options in college as well. Various campus organizations will have booths at the event, representing many interests and facets of campus life.

Lifestyle Educators, Criminal Justice Club, Habitat for Humanity, Lutheran Campus Ministry, PE and Health Services, Phoenix, and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship are only a few of the organizations that will be present.

Career Services is located in 102 Sanford Hall and the Advising Success Center is right next door in 101 to provide job and internship assistance, help choosing a major, changing a major, resume critiques, grad school information, career counseling, cover letter assistance and more.

The Major and Career Expo runs from 11-1 p.m. on Nov. 5, and even though it is geared mainly towards freshmen and sophomores, this event is open to students from all classes.
