The 2010 Winter Olympics are fast approaching, and Bemidji State University’s (BSU) own sophomore goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova will be competing in Vancouver for her home country, Slovakia.

Tomcikova, whose hometown is Bratislava, Slovakia, came to BSU last year by way of the Slovakian National team.  She is sixth in the nation in save percentage, and has five shutouts already this season, which leads the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), and has eight total in her career.

Tomcikova went out in style, shutting out Ohio State in the last game of the regular season last Saturday.

The Slovakian women’s hockey team opens play on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. against the Canadian  team, which has won the gold medal the past two Olympic games.  The opening ceremony for the games will be the day before.
