Can nine days make a difference in one’s life?  Students Today, Leaders Forever (STLF) has been answering "yes" to this question since spring break of 2004.
For five years, college students involved in STLF (a nationwide organization) have dedicated their spring breaks to volunteering in several different cities on a cross-country road trip.
Last week, the Bemidji State University (BSU) STLF chapter held an informational meeting to encourage students to partake on this year’s "Pay It Forward Tour" (PIF Tour).
Junior Bus Core Leader Natalie Hursey announced this year's route to Washington DC . The route includes: Sparta, WI; Kokomo, IN; Canton, OH; Scranton, PA; Hershey, PA; and Washington DC, which is the celebration city.
Once BSU’s PIF Tour arrives in Washington DC, they will join three other STLF chapters to complete several service projects around DC.  While there, all four chapters will also get the chance to find out what the other chapters did for their service projects along the way.
During the meeting, Hursey, the Bus Core and several other people who have been on previous PIF Tours spoke about several service projects.
One service project completed last year was painting an animal shelter. Then the group got to play with the different animals at the shelter.  Another service project performed last year was building a fence around a park ranger’s office.
This year's BSU PIF Tour leaves campus on March 5.  The group will arrive in Sparta, WI and do sightseeing if there is time and have dinner.  The following morning, the group will volunteer in Sparta and have lunch with several of the residents that they served.  After lunch, they will head to the next town.  This process will be repeated until the group reaches DC, where they will spend two days volunteering and sightseeing.
Hursey said that the “Pay it Forward Tour changes your life.”
Several other STLF members agreed that the tour is a chance to do something great over spring break and students should take advantage of helping others out.
A $125 down payment for the tour is required, and later increments can be paid up until the date of departure. Early sign up will reduce the total cost of the trip by $50.
To register for BSU’s PIF Tour, log on to www.stlf.net.  Type in Bemidji’s zip code (56601) in the "find a tour" search tool and then click on "Bemidji State University College Tour."
