Thief Steals Ambulance
(Bemidji Pioneer)

An ambulance from the Bemidji Ambulance Service went missing yesterday in the early hours of the morning.  The vehicle — unoccupied — was later found crashed into a utility pole on Lavina Road Northeast at 7:30 a.m.
Paramedics noticed the ambulance was missing at 6 a.m., three hours after another employee of the Bemidji Ambulance Service remembered seeing the vehicle.  It was determined that another ambulance had been disturbed, but no items were missing.
The crashed ambulance was searched and it was determined that a cell phone and a GPS unit had been removed from the vehicle, as well as the key. However, the locked narcotics container and some cash were still present.
Later, when utility workers were in the area, they were approached by a man with an obvious head injury, who was asking questions about what had happened and what they were doing.
The man was arrested on other charges and searched. A cell phone and GPS unit were found on his person, which were later identified as the missing items from the crashed ambulance. Charges may be filed.
