Students will have a chance to forget their academic worries for a few hours of dancing, music, black lights… and highlighters?
The number of days until the end of the semester is steadily decreasing. Finals are looming ominously on the horizon, project due-dates are drawing near with uncomfortable speed, and Thanksgiving break has just come to an untimely end.
Despite the study tables and stress-management clinics, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and discouraged. During this hectic time of year, it’s good to be able to take a break from studies sometimes, and to put aside the seemingly endless piles of homework and have a little fun.
On this coming Friday, Dec. 4, a unique dance will be held in the second floor lounge in Oak Hall for residents and non-residents alike.
The Highlighter Dance will allow attending students the opportunity to scribble on themselves and their friends with highlighter markers. Yes, those markers have uses beyond the realm of note-taking: the fluorescent ink in the markers will glow brightly under the black lights, creating a one-of-a-kind glowing dance experience.
For those who are worried about staining their clothes, there is an option to bring a t-shirt specifically for the dance. The markers will be provided by the organizers, along with snacks, drinks, and a variety of games.
There’s very little to dislike about the concept of the Highlighter Dance; in the words of Oak Hall PAA Elle O’Neil, “Do you like highlighters? Do you like black lights? Do you like things that glow? Then it’s for you.”
The Highlighter Dance will provide work-weary students a chance to work off some of their pre-finals tension on the dance floor and engage in some healthy procrastination for a few hours, all for the low, low price of a t-shirt and a willingness to have fun.
The dance will run from 9 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Dec. 4 in the second floor lounge in Oak Hall.
