The semester is almost over and you’re going to go home to your family and they will ask, as they always do, what happened in your first semester? You’ll hmmm and you’ll huh and you won’t be able to think of anything (at least not that you can tell your parents).
Well, we’ve put together a list of a few things that happened this semester at good ol' Bemidji State University (BSU).
You may remember moving into the dorms and seeing masses of smiling faces in the not so beautiful weather on move-in day. 1,393 students moved into BSU’s halls that day, an 8.2% increase from last year’s 1,287 students. BSU even had to re-open Maple Hall.
Who can forget all of the commotion going on down by the academic buildings? Students, faculty and staff welcomed new renovations to Sattgast Hall.
Bucky and BSU turned 90 years old this year and celebrated by dancing strong. Ashvin “Nambee” Ragavan and Kelsy Lavrenz were named the 2009-2010 Homecoming King and Queen and unfortunately the St. Cloud Huskies kept our Beaver football team out of the lake.
Financial aid made a bit of a slip up and sent BSU students’ loan information to just about everyone on campus. Luckily someone caught the problem before 700,000 more aberrant e-mails were sent out.
The Northern Student came back from a three week absence while they waited for to have a faculty advisor appointed. In turn, they added a new advisor Robby Robinson to the staff. Robinson was a previous Editor-in-Chief of the Northern Student an currently owns Robb’s Photography and Media Services.
President of BSU Dr. Jon E. Quistgaard announced his retirement for the end of the 2009-2010 schoolyear.
The Beaver men’s hockey team ended the semester ranking top five in the country and will continue to climb.
So there you have it, the important things that you can tell your parents over semester break.
