      Bemidji State University’s (BSU) Music Dept. has featured many talents over the years, including vocalist Tony Tammaro. Tammaro performed last Sunday at the Carl O. Thompson Recital Hall in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.

Music From Near and Far

      The Bemidji State University (BSU) Symphonic Band and Chamber Winds, the wind ensemble, preformed a concert last Sunday titled "Around the World: Music from Near and Far."     Pieces from the United States, Britain and Russia were played, with the occasional accompaniment of an opera singer and member of the BSU music dept.

    Andy Grammer is a talented musician from Los Angeles who not only sings, but plays the guitar and beatboxes as well.      Grammer began his education in acting, but switched to music because he wanted to write his own songs.

The Ahn Trio: Sisters by Blood, Trio by Nature.

 A half an hour before the performance began, the auditorium was already almost completely full. As the time grew near, the lights began to dim. The crowd cheered as three poised sisters, instruments in hand, walked out on stage.      Angella, Lucia and Maria Ahn, originally from Korea, were educated at Juilliard School.

An Artist to Remember

Hana Pestle filled the Lower Hobson Memorial Union (HMU) with her acoustic sound Tuesday, Oct. 20.  With a combined sound of Sara Bareilles and K.T. Tunstall, she entertained Bemidji State University (BSU) students with a variety of music.  A favorite among students was her remake of the cover song “Zombie” by the Cranberries.

        With the Oscars right around the corner, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has many hard decisions to make. The choice for best picture was so challenging, HFPA decided to expand the category from five to ten pictures in order to compensate for the 2010 line-up.

X Games Review, Olympic Preview

            With the Winter Olympics on the way, athletes used the Winter X Games as a stage for practice.  39 Olympic athletes attended Winter X Games 14, which ended a little over a week ago,       Aspen, CO was a great stage for practice, considering its similarity to Vancouver, Canada.

$6,667 Per Minute

50 Cent Performs At X-Games

           Nearly $7,000 per minute — that was what 50 Cent was paid to play a half-hour concert at the X-Games in Aspen, CO, for a grand total of $200,000.     It was a great spectacle to see the infamous 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) prance around on stage and get the crowd hyped up, but it was a little unfortunate to hear him lip-sync a few songs.

So Long, and Farewell… For Now

      The "Tonight Show" saw the last of Conan O’Brien on Friday, Jan. 22. NBC announced that O'Brien’s time hosting the "Tonight Show" was over, and that they are still working out time slots for the show.

Angel Mihaylov Art Exhibit at the Talley

    The Talley Gallery is now hosting the "Color and Contrast" exhibit by Angel Mihaylov, a realist painter who is inspired by the works of Valazquez, Caravaggio and Vermeer.   Mihaylov is a Bulgarian born artist who was educated at Bulgaria’s most prestigious art academy.

Disney Presents: Marvel Comics

  What if Mickey Mouse joined the X-men and helped them do battle against Magneto?  Could Donald Duck join the Avengers?  What would Goofy look like in a Fantastic 4 uniform?    Before, these questions would have been dismissed as ridiculous and the asker would be kicked out of any self respecting nerd club.

Explosions, Storms and Far-Fetched Scenarios

      Never before has a date been so significant to so many cultures. The new action film "2012," starring John Cusack, is full of many well done special effects and bases its story on the Mayan calendar.     The new film was released to theaters at the same time "New Moon" was released for those teenage girls who couldn’t wait any longer.

Music and Films to Anticipate

      As many students returned from their Thanksgiving break, full of turkey and pumpkin pie, it seems like there’s not much time to settle in before another and longer holiday break.     But as students get back into the school setting for the last two or three weeks of the semester, they can look forward to all the upcoming music and film releases.
